Changes to Youth Protection Training Policy
Recently, the Boy Scouts of America announced important changes to its Youth Protection policies. The purpose of these changes is to increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting.

The Inventing Merit Badge Is Here!
Inventing involves finding technological solutions to real-world problems. Inventors understand the importance of inventing to society because they creatively think of ways to improve the lives of others. Explore the world of inventing through this new merit badge, and discover your inner inventiveness!

Bugling Merit Badge Being Discontinued
The bugling merit badge is being discontinued as of next January, 2011. Bill Nelson, a Scouter in the Grand Canyon Council (and former member of the USSSP team) wrote to BSA's "Ask the Expert" as follows:
The Bugling merit badge is no longer on the scouting.org site, and it looks like the Music merit badge requirements have changed to absorb Bugling. What's happening there?
Troop Library Open!
The Troop 108 library includes Merit Badge books, Boy Scouting magazines (Boys’ Life and Scouting), and other Boy Scout resources. It’s perfect to use for working on merit badges without having to spend money.

Watch the BSA 100 Anniversary Broadcast!

On July 31 Boy Scouts of America will broadcast via satellite a special Centennial Celebration from the National Jamboree. The Shining Light Broadcast is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime event that will bring together scouts from all across the country to share in this very special celebration.
Northern New Jersey Council will take part in the Shining Light Celebration at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City.
The live broadcast is scheduled to start at 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 31st. You may visit Liberty Science Center for the broadcast, the afternoon, or stay for the night – all at discounted rates. Please see the attached flyer for information on the packages available.
